- Description
- The National Park Service (NPS) will be issuing a solicitation for the purchase and installation of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) storage facility and Liquefied Natural Gas/Compressed Natural Gas (L/CNG) dispensing unit or fueling station to be installed at the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona. The station will initially provide limited fueling, as seven park shuttle buses have been converted from diesel to dedicated LNG engines, five 40-foot transit buses have been purchased with dedicated CNG engines and nine dedicated CNG sedans and vans are operating in the park. This station will replace a temporary installation as the park develops a new "fuel farm" and as the need for natural gas fuel increases (the nearest natural gas pipeline is 50 miles away). The station may also provide natural gas for an adjacent NPS maintenance complex. The unit will be permanently mounted to the ground on a concrete slab or other appropriate flooring, be capable of appropriate cryogenic storage and dispensing to vehicles, requiring only the delivery of LNG to be functional. All construction will be with non-flammable building materials. All driving surfaces will be concrete or asphalt, appropriate for heavy vehicle use, and allowing year-round operations. The fueling area will be covered for inclement weather operations. A 30 foot buffer area will be cleared to reduce wildfire susceptibility. Lighting will follow the Coconino County lighting ordnance and NPS lighting guidelines. The contractor will be responsible for all aspects of the installation, including, but not limited to, a hazard analysis, provision of all necessary materials and equipment, site preparation, surface preparation, equipment installation and utility installation. The filler nozzle designs shall be "industry standard." The unit shall be capable of delivery of LNG at 30 gpm and CNG at 3,600 psi and 3,000 psi. The station should allow "fast" filling of two 40-foot long LNG vehicles and two 40-foot long CNG vehicles at the same time. Storage capacity shall be 12,000 to 15,000 gallons of LNG. Provisions for adding LNG tanks to expand storage capacity must be included. A magnetic card system shall be included to allow tracking by vehicle, department and organization. Consideration must be given to site elevation and climate for year round operations. Elevation is 7,000 feet; average low temperature in January is 18 degrees Fahrenheit and average high temperature in July is 84. All applicable DOT, ASME, NFPA, ANSI, OSHA, UL, the Code of Federal Regulations, State of Arizona, Coconino County and any other code design requirements in effect at the time of delivery must be met and certified. For a copy of the solicitation fax a request on your letterhead to Jim Clark, fax # 303 969-2063. If there are any questions, call Jim Clark, Contracting Officer at 303 969-2755.
