Description
Sources Sought/Request for Information. Bechtel Nevada is currently seeking sources for the drilling of five vertical holes 200' in length into or from tunnel alcoves with an option to drill a sixth hole, 20" diameter x 17' in length, horizontally above a tunnel invert and on the outside of the tunnel portal. The five vertical holes are as follows: #1, 60" diameter into an 18' wide x 13' high tunnel/alcove area; #2, 24" diameter into a 16'6" wide x 13' high tunnel/alcove area; #3, HQ-size, cored continuously, then opened to 6" into a 33' wide x 13' high tunnel/alcove area; #4 and #5, 6" diameter into a 33' wide x 13' high tunnel alcove area. The tunnel drift size is 13' wide x 13' high with at least one 90 degree turn leading to the alcove area. If drilled from the surface, all five vertical holes are to be drilled so that the bottom of each hole is fixed with a tolerance of not greater than 4' deviation from vertical. All work is on the Nevada Test Site located approximately 110 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada at an elevation of approximately 6500'. Work is currently estimated to start during the first two weeks of March, 2001. Offerors will be required to: (1)Define their technical approach and methodology for drilling all six holes; (2) Define a schedule of operations for the construction of each hole; (3) Provide written examples of recent experience in drilling core holes with successful core recovery in carbonate rocks (limestone or dolomite) (4) provide written demonstration of a minimum of five years of drilling experience similar to the work scope identified in the solicitation.
