Description
The purpose of this notice is to revise the description of requirements for the items to be acquired, and the preservation, packing and packaging requirements. The description of the item being acquired is changed to: rotationally molded high-density polyethylene transport and storage cases. The case outside dimensions shall not exceed 33.25 inches long by 21 inches wide by 10 inches tall. The interior dimensions shall be as large as possible and accommodate a load of approximately 4100 cubic inches (approximate interior dimensions of 29.5 inches by 17.5 inches by 8 inches with the base being approximately 4.5 inches deep). The cases shall be rugged enough to withstand rough handling at temperatures from -20 F to 120 F. The cases shall be sealed to prevent blowing rain, dirt, and sand from entering. Latches shall not extend beyond the exterior dimensions of the case when locked. There shall be no less than two handles, one on each end of the case. The handles shall automatically fold against the side of the case when not in use. While in use, the handles shall stop at a 90 angle to the face of the case. The cases shall be able to be secured with a padlock. Hasps may extend slightly beyond the exterior of the case provided there are no sharp edges and they do not present a hazard for catching clothing. The case, including the handle and clasps, shall be designed so that the chest can be carried, opened, and closed by a person wearing insulated work gloves. The color shall be gray or olive drab and shall go through the material. The PRESERVATION, PACKING, AND PACKAGING REQUIREMENTS are changed to the follows: Preservation, packing and packaging shall be in accordance with ASTM-D-3951 plus the following additional requirements. The unit package quantity shall be 1 each. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTSS: If oak or chestnum wood products are used in the performance of this contract, these wood or wood products must be free of all bark. Unless otherwise specified herein, shipments to the same destination of identical items having a total packaged displacement exceeding 50 cubic feet shall be palletized unless forklift handling features such as skids are included on containers. Workmanship shall be such that when proper procedure is followed, materials and equipment being processed will be provided the maximum protection against corrosion, deterioration, and be suitable for storage to the level of packaging specified. The cases shall be blocked, braced and cushioned to prevent any physical or functional damage when handled by forklift and when shipped by road, rail, sea or air. If the items are packaged in more than one box the boxes shall be marked, 1of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3 etc. MARKING REQUIREMENTS: Container markings shall be in capital letters of equal height, shall be proportionate to the available marking space and shall contain the following information in the order listed: a. NSN/NATO stock number, b. CAGE code of the company, and part number of the item, c. quantity and unit of issue, d. level of protection and date packed, and e. contract or purchase order number. Markings on the shipping container shall be grouped into three distinct categories, identification markings, contract data markings and address markings. Identification Markings: a. NSN/NATO stock number, b. CAGE code of the company, and part number of item, c. quantity and unit of issue, d. level of protection and date packed, e. gross weight and cube, and f. nomenclature. Contract Data: The contract data marking placed under the identification markings, shall consist of the contract number. Address Markings: The address markings placed to the right of the identification and contract data markings shall consist of the following information: a. transportation control number, b. name and address of consignor, c. name and address of the contractor, d. name and address of consignee, and e. piece number and total pieces. In addition to the aforementioned, the NSN/NATO stock number shall be bar coded on the unit packs and intermediate containers. A. NSN/NATO stock number, b. contract number, c. CAGE code of the company, and d. contract line item number. All other terms and conditions of the original combined synopsis/solicitation issued 5 Jan 02, and modification issued 22 Jan 01, to the original notice remains unchanged. Offerors shall acknowledge this notice as part of their quote.
