Description
A large tree has fallen across the lines supplying steam to buildings 603, 587, 1717, and 582. This caused severe deformation in the lines and the collapse of several supporting stanchions. The affected area of the line is approsimately 125 yards long. Steam is currently in service to the buildings, but the compressed line was severed. The area is accessible, but not easily, as it is on the side of a hill. This scope of work is for replacement of these lines. / The government requires the contractor to install a new line from a point above the fallen tree(to be determined by the government), to a point located in the vicinity of building 582(to be determined by the government). The current steam and complressed air lines will be left in service until the new lines are in service. The new lines will be built alongside of the existing lines and tied in to each end of the existing lines with two 45 degree bends. The new line will be hydro tested as per applicable ASME and other codes. The lines shall be painted to match the existing lines and the steam line shall be insulated similarly when complete. Stanchions shall be secured in the ground with concrete, which shall extend a minimum of 2" above grade level and 24" below grade whit a diameter of three times the stanchion. After successful completion and tie-in of the new lines, the existing lines, stanchions, and associated materials shall be removed from the site. / The following are the specifics of the lines to be replaced: (1) 2" diameter steam line, (2) 1" diameter compressed air line, (3) Schedule 40 pipe, (4)All joints welded, (5)15 supporting stanchions, (6) Stanchions shall be maintenance free galvanized metal with proper water drainage, (7) Approsimate length of 125 yards (175') / The government requires that the above conditions be retained in the new lines. / The tree that has necessitated theis problem shall be removed from the site. Several other trees may require removal at the government's discretion. All construction debris shall also be removed from the site. Current insulation is known to contain asbestos and should be removed and disposed of properly. Paint on stanchions may contain lead based paint. The contractor shall test this and follow proper disposal procedures if lead based paint is present. Any questions may be directed to government appointed personnel in written form. See Note 1.
