Description
Integrated Sensing and Processing (ISP) Workshop, SN01-07. The Defense Sciences Office (DSO) of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is sponsoring an informational and team-forming workshop on Integrated Sensing and Processing. This workshop will take place March 26, 2001, at the Adam's Mark Hotel in Charlotte, North Carolina. Attendance at the Workshop is OPTIONAL, BUT HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for all potential bidders. The goals of this Workshop are (1) to provide an overview of the motivation and operational considerations, the key scientific and engineering elements, and essential challenges entailed in developing a new integrated approach to sensing, signal processing, and information exploitation and (2) to promote the formation of teams capable of undertaking research, development, and demonstration of such an approach. ISP seeks to establish, and ultimately demonstrate, new mathematical methodologies for optimized end-to-end design and operation of sensor/exploitation systems and networks. Examples of avenues for integration include: (1) incorporation of feedback from back-end (information exploitation) to front-end (physical sensing) functionality that will allow downstream requirements to optimally manage sensor configuration and modality and (2) integration of processing functionality directly into the sensor to support reduction of data dimensionality prior to digitization. The Workshop agenda will feature an overview of the ISP concept by government personnel, brief concept statements by Workshop participants, and a poster presentation forum to facilitate interaction and identification of teaming opportunities among the participants in view of a planned subsequent DARPA solicitation on the topic of ISP. Participants are encouraged to prepare posters and five-minute concept statements describing interests and capabilities relevant to ISP. A short abstract of each poster presentation is required. Details of the Workshop, including information regarding registration, abstract, and poster preparation, may be found at the ISP website, http://www.eventmakeronline.com/dso/View/index.asp?MeetingID=18. The Workshop registration fee is $125.00 and includes all Workshop activities in addition to a continental breakfast and working lunch. Registration cut-off is March 9, 2001, or at attendance capacity. Space is limited and early registration is recommended. For further information, send electronic mail to Mara Scheele at mscheele@snap.org. Please refer to the ISP Workshop in all such inquiries. This announcement is NOT a request for proposals. No solicitation document is available at this time; DARPA anticipates, but cannot guarantee, a solicitation in the area of Integrated Sensing and Processing.
