Description
The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), is soliciting proposals from offerors having the capability for the genetic monitoring of inbred rodents. The objective of this project is to monitor the genetic homogeneity and stability of the National Toxicology Program (NTP) rat and mouse foundation and expansion colonies. For this purpose, monitor approximately twenty DNA microsatellite markers with one or more markers per chromosome for each strain or hybrid by SSLPs, RFLPs and other procedure for evaluation of polymorphism in the genome of the rodents. The Contractor will receive from the Government up to 600 tissue samples per year at a rate of about 16 mice and 8 rats at approximately two-week intervals (33 mice and 17 rats per month) for genetic monitoring by DNA markers. In addition, tissue samples from approximately 100 mice/year (tail samples from 10 B6C3F1 mice/shipment, approximately 10 shipments/year will be shipped to the Contractor by the NIEHS/NTP toxicology testing laboratories for confirmation of the strain/hybrid by approximately 6 DNA markers. The number of tissue samples and the number and type of microsatellite markers may change during the course of the contract depending on the experience with the markers of the NTP/NIEHS programs. A suggested list of DNA markers from each chromosome included but not limited for rats and mice will be provided in the attachments of the solicitation. The Government estimates that 1.18 professional person years will be required per year. The period of performance will be five years in addition to a three year optional study. Request must reference RFP No. NIH-ES-01-05 and must be directed to the office listed above.
