Description

The U.S. Army ARDEC is seeking information and potential sources to procure a replacement for the 40mm M781 Practice Cartridge for the M203 Grenade Launcher under the auspices of the U.S. Army Foreign Comparative Test Program. It is proposed that the round meet the following provisions: The candidate cartridge must meet the requirements of MIL-C-63239; be compatible with the M203 Grenade Launcher; be a ballistic match to the 40mm M433 High Explosive Dual Purpose (HEDP) Cartridge at a minimum range of 200 meters, 400 meters (desired); and upon im- pact, be capable of providing a visible signature for day firings at a maximum range of 400 meters under standard atmospheric conditions on level terrain. Request that the contractor submit a firing table identifying the trajectories of the candidate cartridge at the 100, 200, 300, and 400 meter range(s) for informational purposes only. The planned schedule utilizes a Non-Developmental Item (NDI) approach resulting in Type Classification-Standard-A of the new 40mm M781 Practice Cartridge. At Type Classification, it is expected that the nomenclature of the new round would be changed to 40mm M781A1 Practice Cartridge.
