Description

The Southern Division, Naval Facilities Engineering Command is currently seeking information/comments on the 1984 guide specification for Maintenance of Wooden Utility Poles in order to bring it in line with current industry standards. This notice does not constitute a commitment by the Government, and a contract may or may not result. Requirements include the following services to be performed: The Contractor shall provide wooden utility pole maintenance service as described herein. The work includes furnishing all labor, transportation, equipment, materials, supplies, and supervision necessary to perform the wooden utility pole maintenance. Maintenance is required especially for decay, fungus, and wood destroying insects at or near the groundline; to perform chemical groundline treatment of serviceable poles at least five years old; to install steel stubs or splints to poles requiring reinforcement; and to identify poles requiring immediate replacement. The purpose of these services is to ensure that completely serviced lines shall be relatively free of failures (1 percent or less), particularly from exterior groundline decay for a period of ten years. This is not a request for proposals and no solicitation is available at this time. The Government will not pay for information requested nor will it compensate any respondent for any cost incurred in developing information provided to the Government.
