Description
1. The U.S. Air Force is seeking information regarding operational concepts of sensor technologies focused on future military capabilities. Interested respondents must reply to the AF Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) point of contact (POC) by 01 April 2001. 2. The Secretary and Chief of Staff of the Air Force have tasked the AF Scientific Advisory Board to provide conclusions and recommendations on the following topics: An assessment of the performance and readiness of sensor technologies to address the difficult targets identified in this study; operational concepts and associated systems concepts utilizing these technologies; and prioritization and goals appropriate for a top-level technology investment strategy. The study will consider the following issues: Multiple sensing modalities (UWB radar, hyperspectral, SIGINT, MASINT, etc); sensor and data fusion; sensor-to-weapon timelines; signal processing and transmission (e.g. levels of onboard processing, data compression); operational concepts for attacks against difficult targets; and system concepts to support the operational concepts (i.e. continuous coverage, multi function sensing platforms, micro UAVs, etc.). 3. The information provided may be included and/or referenced in the SAB presentation to the Secretary and Chief of Staff and the subsequent report. The members of the Scientific Advisory Board are comprised of leading scientists and engineers from industry, academia, and federally funded research centers and laboratories. Nonproprietary information is highly encouraged because SAB reports are normally cleared for release to the public and the non-government membership of the SAB. 4. Responders to this RFI are requested to contact the Air Force Scientific Advisory Board's POC, Captain D. Brent Morris, DBrent.Morris@pentagon.af.mil at HQ USAF/SB, 1180 Air Force Pentagon (Room 5D982), Washington, DC 20330-1180; phone (703) 697-4811 (toll free 1-800-529-4681). Any information submitted in response to this RFI should be submitted directly to Captain Morris. It is also requested that initial inputs be limited to 2-10 pages. Electronic submissions are encouraged. Responders may be requested to provide additional details or presentations to the SAB study team based on their initial submittals. The study is tentatively scheduling a meeting in Ogden UT on 25-26 April 2001 to receive presentations from selected RFI respondents. 5.
