Description
THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES AMENDMENT NO.1 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR a Yag Seeder Laser. Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their quote. This notice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a written amendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is to answer the following question: Question: The specifications listed for this seeder required a minimum power output of 700mw. Most seeder lasers have power outputs on the order of 2 to 10 mw, many times less than what is required in the solicitation. Although there is no technical reason why a higher power laser could not used, there is no immediate obvious reason why a higher power laser should be used. Seeder lasers generally fall under the title of 'narrow line width laser'. There are several commercial product choices for such narrow line width lasers of high power, but customarily they are not referred to as a seeder laser. "We would like to verify that the 700mw power level is in fact accurate". Answer: The phrase 700 mW seeder laser is correct. NASA requires a Nd:YAG laser at 1064 nm which produces 700 mW of continuous wave power. This laser will be used to seed another laser. The application in mind requires this level of power, which is a special laser application. It is not the standard type of seeding used by most laser manufacturers which only requires a few milliwatts as stated in the question. The due date for receipt of offers is not extended. Companies shall provide the information stated in the synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS) on 02/12/01. Documents related to this procurement are available over the Internet and are in Microsoft Office 97 format and reside on the World Wide Web (WWW) server which may be accessed using a WWW browser application.
