Description
The contractor shall submit a proposal to test the draft SAE Recommended Test Procedure for Powered Gas/Brake Control Systems. These control systems are used to modify prsonally licensed vehicles for use by persons with disabilities. The test procedure was developed by the Adaptive Devices Standards Committee of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and is in the draft stages. The purpose of this proposed work is to evaluate the feasibility of conducting the tests under laboratory conditions and to validate certain test parameters of the test procedure. The SAE Adaptive Devices Standards Committee was established to develop standards for aftermarket equipment used to enable persons with disabilities to drive personally licensed vehicles. Several task groups have been at work, one of which is the Task Group on Powered Controls. This group has been dealing with modifications, which use external power systems (such as batteries, vacuum pumps, etc.), which are controlled by a lever and are connected through acuators to the OEM gas and brake controls. Persons with disabilities operate the levers to control the gas and brakes. It is contemplated that a Cost-Reimbursable type contract will be awarded for this effort. The period of performance is for fourteen (14) months. The solicitation will be mailed to those organizations responding in writing or faxed at (202) 366-9555. The anticipated issue date is March 26, 2001.
