- Description
- The Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) is a Department of Defense field activity operating under the direction, authority, and control of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for personnel Support, Families, and Education. It is comprised of the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) and the Department of Defense Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS). The Department of Defense Dependents Schools Europe (DoDDS-Europe) provides a high-quality PreK-12 education to children of Department of Defense military and civilian personnel stationed in Europe and the Middle East. DoDDS Europe students receive an American-style education and get the added educational benefit of living in a foreign country. The 116 schools are organized into 8 districts and are located in the countries of Bahrain, Belgium, England, Germany, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Turkey. The DoDDS Europe Headquarters is located in Wiesbaden, Germany. DoDDS Europe is seeking services in the development of training for teachers, administrators, curriculum liaisons and program coordinators. The training must examine a variety of instructional strategies and delivery models that can be applied at all grade levels and support the defined DoDEA curriculum standards. The training must also examine a variety of strategies in supervision and evaluation that administrators can use when observing instruction and conferencing with teachers. The training must support the direct transfer of concepts learned to every day application in schools and enhance student performance. The training will begin at selected sites in Belgium, Germany, Italy, England, Portugal and The Netherlands in Fall 2001 and be continued throughout SY 2001-2002. The initial training could begin as early as August 2001. Training in these six countries, or at different sites within the same country, could be going on simultaneously, or at different times. The training will initially focus at the high school and middle school levels but could also include elementary schools. This developmental staff development can be up to nine days in length and does not have to take place on consecutive days. Courses can be offered first and second semesters. There could be an option for continuing the training at expanded sites, in the same or different countries, during the following four school years.
