- Description
- The White Sands Missile Range (WSMR) Electronic Proving Ground (EPG) performs electronic developmental testing of command, control, communications, computers and intelligence systems (C4I) for the U.S. Army. EPG is located at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. We developed a number of unique test support equipment. This equipment can simulate, stimulate, record, and control the system under test (SUT). We developed our own separate support communication system to record results and to control test support equipment. EPG developed communication sheds to house the SUT and supporting test and recording equipment. These sheds are stand-alone entities. The sheds are transportable, not easily movable, i.e., require a truck with lifting capability for movement. Sheds are roughly 8 feet high, 52 inches wide, and 52 inches in depth. We use marine, deep-discharge lead-acid batteries for power. The sheds are placed on our test range and are not normally manned during a test. Control and monitoring of the shed are accomplished via our separate communication system within the shed, i.e., independent of the SUT communication capability. Normally, no commercial alternate current (ac) power is available, thus the necessity for the lead-acid batteries for the sheds. All equipment in the sheds is serviced at 12 or 24 volts direct current (dc). The battery configuration is capable of servicing a 11-hour test effort without replacement of the batteries. The batteries are replaced with recharged batteries nightly for the next day's test effort. REQUIREMENT:  Need a power source sufficient to service a single shed over a minimum, continuous 48-hour period without manual refueling. Shed requires 12 and 24 volts dc distribution.  Power source should be low-maintenance. Source would be activated at the start of the test period and run continuously without interruption or service, or operator invention.  No environmental impact. Low-noise generation.  No physical waste shall be generated.  Any gaseous emissions should meet or exceed federal and Arizona state standards of gaseous emissions.  Any liquid fuel source shall require a secondary containment method capable of handling the total fuel discharge from the primary fuel container.  Power source and any necessary ancillary equipment shall be a 2-man lift or less.  Power source and any necessary ancillary equipment should be highly movable and transportable. Power source and any ancillary equipment should be able to be assembled/disassembled in less than 1 hour. Equipment is transported over unmaintained, non-paved, high-desert roads.  No special tools required for operation or maintenance.  Power source and any necessary ancillary equipment shall not be hard-wired to any one particular shed. Power source should be highly movable and connect with any shed.  Power source and any necessary ancillary equipment shall not require any exterior housing or protection. Units shall operate in an unprotected weather environment. Nominal outside operational temperature range is 10 degrees through 115 degrees Fahrenheit over the course of a year.  Power requirement: 24Vdc @ 17-AMP(max) continuously over a test 11-hour period per day. 12Vdc @ 5-AMP(max) for continuously over a 24-hour period. Both voltages required simultaneously; maximums can happen during the same time.
