- Description
- NASA intends to issue a RFI via the internet on or about March 12, 2001. Interest parties are invited to submit comments or questions to the indicated point of contact. In responding please cite the appropriate reference number. Your response should be not more than 10 pages (8.5" x 11") in length. Your response can be submitted in either hard copy or electronically. If submitted electronically, please ensure that the format is compatible with MS Office 97 or Adobe Acrobat Reader. If other software applications are used, please contact the Contracting Officer to ensure compatibility. The Statement of Work (SOW)is available on the internet at URL: http://ec.msfc.nasa.gov/jsc/documents/RFIBH-TSE/GraspSOW.doc It is to be used for INFORMATION GATHERING AND PLANNING purposes and to allow industry the opportunity to verify reasonableness and feasibility of the requirements. The SOW provides the requirements and constraints for tactile/force/pressure sensor elements that would be used in a research setting to measure forces on the fingers and palm of a robotic hand. The research objective is to develop finger and palm sensors for a humanoid robotic hand, the forces and pressures measured would then be transmitted back to either a human tele-operator or to a closed-loop control system to provide a semi- or fully autonomous grasping capability. 1. Information Requested -- provide a capabilities statement that includes: a. A thorough description of your product(s) b. Comments and/or questions regarding the draft specifications. Reference the page and paragraph number in your submission for each comment/question. c. Assuming modifications to the product are needed for it to meet acceptance requirements what modifications as part of your normal production process could you provide. If not part of the normal production process, identify those tasks and provide a brief explanation of the feasibility of performing those tasks by your company or by NASA. d. Any non-returnable samples that can be submitted to help evaluate the capabilities of the sensors or materials. This RFI is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government, nor will the Government pay for the information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the review. Any questions regarding this announcement should be directed to the identified point of contact. The RFI, Statement of Work, and any documents related to this RFI will be available over the Internet.
