Description

The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, Coastal Systems Station, Panama City, Florida intends to issue a sole source contract to Tracer Technologies in Sommerville, MA for the procurement of 2000 MK176 Mod O Battery Power Supplies that are used in the Quick Strike Mod 3 Underwater Mine. These batteries incorporate a Lithium Thionyl Cloride AA cell that is subject to safety review and certification under NAVSEA Technical Manual (TM) S9310-AQ-SAF-010. THe Battery Power Suppies are also subject to certification under this TM. Tracer Technology is the only company certified to produce these battery Power Supplies. It is estimated that about one year would be required to accomplish the certification of another manufactures production. It is not parctical to expect the results in the identification of a company that could produce these items at a cost sufficiently lower than Tracer Technology to offset the cost of the qualification that would be incurred.
