- NASA/JSC is hereby soliciting information for potential sources for a digital camera or camera system for the X-38 Spacecraft. PURPOSE/TASK -- Must be able to produce sharp images of the Earth horizon and of star fields. -- Visible spectrum -- Still images as output (not video) -- Space compatible (or space rated) INTERFACE SPECIFICATIONS -- Data Interface: RS-232 or 422 (232 preferred) -- Power: 28 V conditioned power available -- Command: Commandable by 5 V TTL compatible discretes, including -- On/Off with discrete -- Take (or capture) picture with discrete -- Possibly separate command to download image -- Possibly image brightness/sensitivity control (if necessary) -- Alternately, RS-422 commanding may be an option CAMERA SPECIFICATIONS: -- 300x300 to 600x600 pixel resolution -- Gray scale (8 bit) -- Field of view: between 35 X 35 and 90 x 90 degrees -- Good low light performance (identify limitations) -- Must survive the Sun in the field-of-view without damage -- low power -- low weight -- small package(s) In addition to your specifications, please provide us with the following information: -- Cost per unit -- Acquisition time, from order to delivery? -- Power consumption, mass, dimensions, and temperature limits (operating and non-operating). -- Previous spaceflight experience with this camera/system -- Characterize the time delay from command to image capture If you do not have a digital camera or camera system that meets our requirements, but have something generally similar, please advise us of the differences and we'll evaluate your submission. No solicitation exists; therefore, do not request a copy of the solicitation. If a solicitation is released it will be synopsized in the CBD and on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service. It is the potential offerors responsibility to monitor these cites for the release of any solicitation or synopsis. Vendors having the capabilities necessary to meet or exceed the stated requirements are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures, and references. Please advise if the requirement is considered to be a commercial or commercial-type product. A commercial item is defined in Internet "Note A". This synopsis is for information and planning purposes and is not to be construed as a commitment by the Government nor will the Government pay for information solicited. Respondents will not be notified of the results of the evaluation. Respondents deemed fully qualified will be considered in any resultant solicitation for the requirement. The Government reserves the right to consider a small business or 8(a) set-aside based on responses hereto. All responses shall be submitted to Debra Powers no later than April 20, 2001.
