Description

NASA/GSFC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a FARO Portable Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) and Precision Rail System. NASA/GSFC intends to purchase the items from Direct Dimensions, Inc. of Baltimore, MD because they are the sole authorized regional distributor for FARO Technologies, Inc. and therefore, the only local source for the CMM and Precision Rail System. The CMM must also meet the following specifications: 1) An instrumented seven degrees of freedom articulating arm with rotary transducers at each joint, built-in counter -- balance, and built-in temperature compensation; 2) A minimum 4-foot unit (indicating 2-foot radial reach) with single-point accuracy factory-certified to B89 standards at +/-.001" at 2-sigma over working volume; 3) A 3.0 meter precision rail that permits rapid translation of the CMM without loss of accuracy or need for recalibration; 4) In order to be fully compatible with inspection and measurement hardware and software currently in use at this facility, the system must operate with existing AutoCAD Mechanical Desktop software package and existing AnthroCAM software. This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12. Interested organizations may submit their capabilities and qualifications to perform the effort in writing to the identified point of contact not later than 4:30 p.m. local time on 4/10/01. Such capabilities/qualifications will be evaluated solely for the purpose of determining whether or not to conduct this procurement on a competitive basis. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed effort on a full and open competition basis, based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the government. Oral communications are not acceptable in response to this notice. All responsible sources may submit an offer which shall be considered by the agency. An Ombudsman has been appointed.
