- Description
- The U.S. Geological Survey, Office of Western Region Services (OWRS), Branch of Information Services (BIS), located at 345 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park, California 94025, has a need to purchase, on a sole source basis, from Arcom Electronics, Inc., 1500 McCandles Drive, Milpitas, California 94035, the known source available to add a second (upgrade) OC-3/STM- 1 155 Mbps digital microwave system, which includes the following: Flex Waveguide 15Ghz, 3ft, labor costs, post warranty maintenance support, and miscellaneous wireless parts to the existing system between NASA Ames and the USGS Menlo Park facility. This new microwave channel will be added to the existing high performance dish housing the OC3 microwave system supporting critical Internet access. The original OC3 system was installed and is maintained by Arcom. The new system will be "housed" in the same high-performance dish as the primary OC3 system. Since this primary system supports Internet access for the majority of the bureau, it is essential that there is no interference with this primary system, and that no "down time" is experienced during the installation process. Arcom's familiarity with the primary OC3's configuration and installation is key to meeting these objectives. Additionally, Arcom installed the microwave tower and previous DS3 (45 Mbps) microwave systems, which operated virtually error free during their three-year-live cycle. This installation process cannot withstand the unknown element of a new engineering group, nor can it withstand the inability of another vendor to provide a non-interference guarantee for the primary OC3 system during installation. It is also possible that problems encountered by another vendor during the installation process could result in the nullification of the warranty on the existing OC3 system. Delivery date: September 1, 2001.
