- Description
- The U. S. Army Robert Morris Acquisition Center (U. S. Army Natick Soldier Center (NSC)), Natick, MA has a requirement for the design, development and full scale manufacture of an Advanced Bomb Suit (ABS) for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Soldiers. This is a preliminary notice of the Government's intent to contract. This synopsis is considered market research to identify interested firms having the requisite expertise or having technologies to contribute to this effort and solicit industry comments on the draft performance specification. The goals of the ABS program are to integrate and leverage existing and emerging technologies and design concepts into the system to provide protection against Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) provide advances over the current system in rapid donning and doffing, lighter weight, or better distribution of weight, leading to increased mobility, better flexibility, a wider field of vision, greater spine and back protection, and greater protection for blast overpressure. Increased ballistic protection, system weight and bulk reduction over the current state of technology are key goals of this effort. Interested firms are asked to review the draft ABS performance specification, which has been posted to the Natick Acquisition Center website, and submit questions and comments, keyed to specific sections of the specification, if possible, TO: Mike Zielinski, email mike. zielinski@natick.army.mil, phone 508-233-4417, fax 508-233-4795. Comments are due no later than April 27, 2001. See below for the website address. Instructions for accessing the draft performance specification are as follows: Click on "Business Opportunities", then "Upcoming Acquisitions", then "EOD Advanced Bomb Suit", then "Files Available for Download", and then "Draft Advanced Bomb Suit Draft Performance Specification". The Government may award more than one contract under this effort based on available funding. Depending on the number of contract awards, a down selection process may occur at the end of each contract phase. This Request For Information (RFI) does not constitute a Request For Proposal (RFP) and is not to be construed as a commitment from the Government. The Government does not intend to award a contract on the basis of this notice, nor otherwise pay for information/items solicited.
