Description

CBD Submission No. 50G9U5 dated 22 March 2001 is modified to add the following: The aluminum alloy is an experimental composition for use in a battery. Iron is known to be catalytic to corrosion of the aluminum in this application. That fact drives the requirement for very low iron content. The alloy should start with a very, very low iron content (<<50 ppm) ingot of at least 99.99% pure aluminum. This would allow for a small amount of iron contamination during processing. The tin and magnesium additives are specified over a range. It would be desirable to target the midpoint of each range for production. The composition of the delivered aluminum is re-stated as follows: Magnesium 0.8% to 1.0%, Tin 0.06% to 0.08%, Iron < 50 ppm, Silicon < 50 ppm, Aluminum -- balance. Vendors must supply a chemical analysis from an external laboratory confirming that the aluminum sheet conforms to the chemical limitations. The Government intends to award a firm fixed price contract on a best value basis. Evaluation factors are Past Performance and Price. Delivery will be FOB Destination 30 days after award.
