Description
NOTICE TYPE: Solicitation NOTICE DATED: OFFICE ADDRESS: Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC (BBWI), P. O. Box 1625, Idaho Falls, ID 83415-3805. ZIPCODE: 83415-3521 SUBJECT: A -- HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT OF FINNED HEAT EXCHANGER TUBES. SOLICITATION NO.: SOL RESPONSE DEADLINE: DUE 4 WEEKS CONTACT: POC Sandeep Agarwal NOTICE TEXT: A -- HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT. This is a potential technology development and licensing opportunity with Bechtel BWXT Idaho, LLC (BBWI), the prime operating contractor for the Department of Energy at the Idaho National Engineering and Environmental Laboratory (INEEL). BBWI has developed a technology to enhance heat transfer from finned tubes of air-cooled heat exchangers and condensers such as those employed in the process industries, HVAC systems, geo-thermal power plants, etc. The technology employs enhancement devices to enhance heat transfer coefficient by an order of 30% and reduce parasitic power energy requirements. The technology becomes viable with different and simplified fabrication techniques to reduce manufacturing costs. The novelty of this approach is increasing heat transfer with no (or minimal) increase in pressure drop across the tubes and reducing manufacturing costs. Some potential applications of the technology are heat-pump condensers and evaporators, heating coils (including those employed in home-heating systems), automotive cooling, refrigerated trucks, waste-heat recovery systems, etc. BBWI is soliciting industry partners who would enter in to a collaborative research and development agreement with INEEL to develop, test and commercialize the technology. The industry partners can be OEMs, manufacturers of finned tube or heat exchangers, or any other interested company. The nature and extent of the collaboration will be determined based upon the partner(s) interests, capabilities, schedule, and resources. The industry partner(s) will make cash or in-kind contributions and will have the option of entering into a royalty-bearing license agreement with INEEL. It is also possible that cooperative R&D could lead to the development of additional new concepts. This Request for Interest (RFI) is not an opportunity to provide goods or services to BBWI or the Department of Energy and will close to response 45 days after publication.
