Description

1. Bechtel Nevada requires a volume of single-crystal cerium-doped lutitium oxyorthosilicate (Lu2 (SiO4) O:Ce) for use in scintillation arrays suitable for imaging. Enough material is needed to harvest 14 scintillator pieces, each 42 mm X 42 mm X 4 mm in size. 2. The material must be free of defects larger than 50 um X 50 um X 1 cm; furthermore, there must be no more than 5 such defects per finished piece. Several crystals may be offered to fill the order, but the material sensitivity (that is, photons produced per MeV of energy deposited)of the least sensitive piece must be not less than 70% of the most sensitive. The average sensitivity of the material must be 23,000 photons per MeV of energy deposited. 3. For the purpose of evaluation, Bechtel Nevada will require from potential vendors; 1) a reference from at least one customer who will attest to the vendor's material quality and ability to deliver in a timely fashion, and 2) a representative sample of the material that is suitable for testing; this sample must be 3 mm thick and at least 25 x 25 mm in size. 4.
