Description

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has a requirement for the fabrication/manufacture of one (1) Neutron Monochromator Drum (Shield). This drum is to be used at the NIST Center for Neutron Research, Gaithersburg, MD, to house a neutron monochromator. It has been designed to prevent all but a small fraction of the radiation scattering from the monochromator to be shielded away from the environment into which the drum is to be deployed.*****Part of the monochromator drum consists of heavy (several tons) welded shells (up to 7 ft in diameter) which, after post weld heat treatment, need extensive high precision machining. Other parts involve the casting of ductile iron followed by high precision machining.*****The drum shall be manufactured in accordance with a Government-supplied design. The technical data package will be available to prospective offerors in the form of 2-D drawings stored in .PDF format and 3-D parts stored in IGES-format. Both formats are available on CD-ROM. In addition to the electronic formats, several written Procedures will be supplied.*****Delivery is required within 300 days after contract award.*****The Government intends to award a firm fixed price type base contract for the fabrication/manufacture of one (1) neutron monochromator drum, with three (3) options for one (1) additional neutron monochromator drum each.*****Requests for a complete solicitation package should be submitted, in writing, to NIST, Acquisition and Logistics Division, Solicitation No. SB1341-01-R-0032, at FAX No. (301) 975-8884.
