Description
17. Description: 1. Friction Stir Welding (FSW) system in accordance with the following performance requirements (load and positional accuracies shall exceed +/-1% Full Scale): a. Welding axis shall have at least 41 inches of travel inside at least a 60-inch work envelope. Welding speed shall be variable between 0.1 -- 30 inches/minute at force of 15,000 lbf. b. The forge axis shall have a stroke of at least 12.5 inches at a speed of 0.1 -- 55 inches/minute and shall be capable of a maximum force of 30,000 lbf. c. The tool rotation shall be variable between 0.1 -- 3000 RPM (loaded), shall be capable of 1600 lbf-in at 3000 RPM and be adjustable to obtain 4800 lbf-in at 400 RPM. d. The head shall be programmable to tilt at least +/- 15 degrees at a speed between 0.1-300 degrees/minute while fully loaded at 20,000 lbf. e. The system shall include an adjustable pin tool that shall have a stroke of at least 1.25 inches and shall travel at 0.1 -- 50 inches/minute while loaded at 20,000 lbf. f. The system shall include an adjustable feedback controlled fixed distance dual shoulder system (Bobbin-type) capable of welding two sided joints simultaneously, and shall travel at 0.1 -- 50 inches/minute while loaded at 20,000 lbf. 2. The FSW system shall include closed loop feedback control including PC and digital motion and process controller. 3. The FSW system shall include software for Programming Interface, Real Time Process control and data acquisition of all functions. 4. The contractor will also provide training on the FSW system after installation and testing at the government facility. 5. The contractor shall also quote any available friction stir welding process license agreement options. The Government will award a contract resulting from this solicitation to the responsible offeror whose offer is conforming to the solicitation will be most advantageous to the government, price, delivery and past performance will also be considered.
