Description
The Army Research Laboratory, Human Research and Engineering Directorate (ARL-HRED) intends to negotiate with The Merritt Group for Statement of Work, Title: Stereoscopic and Night Vision Research Services. The requirements of this effect are to a) Observe operations and provide technical comments on experimental design issues related to the relative importance of pixel-level fusion versus additive fusion for enhanced recognition and classification of terrain imagery b) Observe operations and provide technical comments on experimental design issues related to the effects of the degree of binocular disparity on terrain hazard classification c) Provide technical comments on laboratory studies about sensor offset and perceptual-motor task performance d) Support the development of an experiment to study effective depth acuity, object recognition, and recovery of dark adaptation with achromatic versus monochromatic displays e) Observe operations and provide technical comments on experimental design issues related to the relative importance of extra FOV versus binocular depth cues for off-road mobility f) Observe operations and provide technical comments on experimental design issues related to divided attention between thermal versus I2 imagery g) Support the development of the stereoscopic imagery needed to examine terrain hazard perception as a function of the amount of binocular retinal dispaarity (zero, normal, 2X and 3X). Research findings will be documented in a Technical Report. The report shall be submitted in both hard copy format and MS Word or compatible format. The report shall conform to the format specified in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Current Edition or equivalent format provided by the Government. Services shall be performed at the contractor's facility and the Visual & Auditory Processes Branch of the Human Research and Engineering Directorate (HRED), Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD during the effective date of this order and 31 December 2001. Negotiations are planned solely with The Merritt Group. This effort represents a continuation of the engineering development work completed by John Merritt, expert in solving optical problems associated with developing stereo and hyperstereo displays. The value of this procurement is estimated at $45,000. Interested persons may identify their interest and capability. Information received will be considered only for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
