Description
The F-16 Logistics Operations Division, Radar Section is investigating the reliability of the current Dual Mode Transmitter (DMT) (NSN 1270-01-238-3662WF, Part Number 758R990G01), used in the AN/APG-68 radar. The goal is to determine if a more reliable DMT can be produced using advanced technology rather than the traditional build to print techniques. The current DMT includes a dual mode TWT (Traveling Wave Tube) capable of producing two peak power levels separated by ten dB. The TWT operates at various pulse widths and pulse repetition frequency (PRF) combinations to produce a wide range of average powers in the kilowatt range. The Air Force is conducting this Request for Information (RFI) to determine interest and capability of potential contractors to participate in a competitive acquisition for a product to replace the DMT Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) with a form, fit, function, interface (F3I) equivalent new transmitter. The respondents are requested to provide information on their line of products that could assist in replacing the existing DMT. This information should include 1) a summary of their capabilities and facilities that will allow them to develop and manufacture a new transmitter, 2) their ability to handle and protect classified information, and 3) a budgetary cost estimate. The requested information is for planning purposes and does not constitute a commitment, implied or otherwise, that a procurement will be accomplished. However, the Air Force will utilize the information for planning purposes. It is recognized that cost information, provided by the contractor, is a preliminary estimate for budgetary planning purposes only; the contractor will not be bound to these estimates. This is not a Request for Proposal or Invitation for Bid. All data received in response to this RFI marked or designated, as corporate or proprietary information will be fully protected from release outside the government. If determined feasible, interested parties would be required to design a new transmitter assembly and manufacture as many as 1,500 units to replace the existing DMT units. A warranty to guarantee product quality would be preferred by the government. The government does not intend to contract on the basis of this request or otherwise pay for the information solicited. Please provide written responses to OO-ALC/LGKE, ATTN: Cheryl Dumas, 6072 Fir Ave, Hill AFB, UT 84056-5820 by 30 June 2001. A technical data package can be provided upon request. For answers to technical questions regarding this RFI, please contact Mr. Brad Mowry at (801) 775-4609, e-mail bradley.mowry@hill.af.mil or Mike Polzin at (801) 775-4610, e-mail mike.polzin@hill.af.mil. For answers to contractual questions, please contact Ms. Cheryl Dumas at (801) 777-5777, e-mail cheryl.dumas@hill.af.mil.
