Description
The contract work consists of the substructures for a two-lane highway bridge and single track railroad bridge across the Tennessee River immediately below Kentucky Dam in western Kentucky near Grand Rivers, Kentucky. The proposed U.S. Highway 62/641 Bridge and the Paducah and Louisville Railway Bridge will be approximately 3100 feet long from abutment to abutment. The highway bridge will have nine concrete piers and the railroad bridge will have seventeen. Of the 26 total piers, the nineteen marine piers will be founded on six and seven foot diameter, reinforced concrete drilled shafts. The land-based piers and abutments will be founded on steel H-piles, spread footings, or drilled shafts. The lengths of the drilled shafts are anticipated to range from 53 to 148 feet, including a socket into the karstic limestone ranging from 18 to 38 feet. The piers' height above their foundation will range from 47 to 86 feet. In addition to the bridge piers and abutments, the contract will include the construction of two drilled shafts for future fishing piers and the expansion of an existing boat basin that will involve the excavation of approximately 139,000 cubic yards of material. The contractor will be required to provide all plant, labor and materials to construct these features. Solicitation documents will be available on or about 1 June 2001; hard copies will not be available. Contractors may view and/or download this solicitation and all amendments from the Internet at the following address: http://www.orn.usace.army.mil on or after issue date of the solicitation. After review of the solicitation, drawings may be requested on the CD Rom at http://maxie.c.covington.usace.army.mil. Bidders are responsible for printing paper copies of the solicitation. Bids will be opened on or about 13 July 2001 at 2:00 p.m. Completion time for this project is 930 days. Large business must comply with FAR 52.219-9 regarding the requirement for submission of a subcontracting plan. The subcontracting goals for this District with Small Business are 61.4%; including small disadvantaged business of 9.1% and woman owned small business of 5.0%. This plan is not required with the bid submittal. The NAICS Code is 234120 with a size standard of $27.5 million dollars. The project bid range is expected to be more than $10,000,000 and bonding is required. Affirmative action to insure equal employment opportunity is applicable to the resulting contract.
