Description
NOTICE TO INCLUDE SOLE SOURCE COMPONENTS IN A CONSTRUCTION PROJECT. Notice that proprietary items will be listed as components of a construction project for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Building 103 project located in Poolesville, Maryland. These components will be integrated into existing NIH systems for life safety, building security, building automation, and animal drinking water systems. The construction project will include an addition to Building 103 and the above named items will be extensions of exising systems. The NIH maintains one standard system in all of its facilities for portions of their door hardware that is integral to life safety. These items are: Mortise Locksets by Corbin Russwin; Cylinders by Loockwood; Exit Devices by Von Duprin; and Door Closers by LCN. The existing NIH Building Automation System (BAS) is manufactured and maintained by Siemens Building Technologies, Inc. The BAS controls building security and environmental systems which is of prime importance to the animal facility additon to be constructed. Clear communication between all facets of the NIH system require use of one manufacturer. The Animal Drinking Water System is manufactured by Edstrom Industries, Inc. and is part of a system that will service this primate habitat. Dependability of the system is integral to the validity of the research work being accomplished in the facility. The NIH maintains a standard Fire Alarm System (FAS) throughout the NIH life safety system. All local panels report to a central station through an NIH internal communications loop. Accurate and direct communications with the current Cerberus system, which is responsible for life safety of the NIH staff and animal populations as well as ongoing research is mandatory. Detailed requirements of the above systems will be provided in the construction documents when they are issued. THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION. THE SOLICITATION FOR THE BUILDING 103 PROJECT WILL BE ISSUED AT A LATER DATE. See Note 22.
