Description
THIS NOTICE CONSTITUTES AMENDMENT NO.1 TO THE COMBINED SYNOPSIS/RFQ FOR Circulating Oil Heat Transfer System. Companies shall acknowledge all amendment(s) in their quote. This notice serves as the official amendment to subject synopsis/RFQ and a written amendment will not be issued. The purpose of this amendment is to provide answers to the following questions regarding the solicitation. Question 1: What type of oil do you intend to circulate? Are you using a standard heat transfer oil such as a Dow Therm or Mobil Therm? Answer: The oil selection should be determined by the contractor. It should be selected to work best for the equipment they supply and must meet safety standards. Question 2: Is supplying the oil for the system part of the quotation, or will Langley provide the oil? If we need to provide the oil what is the capacity of the nip rollers? Answer: Oil should be supplied with the system along with material safety data sheets. Question 3: We would need to know the intended BTU/Hr. load of the attached system (nip rollers) to correctly size the heating and cooling units to meet your items #2 and #6 of the solicitation. Answer: The nip rollers (4 ea)are 16" by 9". The BTU/Hr. would be determined by contractors system. Question 4: Is the heat rise and of 5 degrees F/Min. and the cooling rate of 3 degrees F/Min. to be measured at the oil temperature controller, or on the nip rollers? Answer: The temperature is to be measured at the nips (thermocouples are already located at the rotating union of the nips.) Question 5: What is the water source for the pump seal cooling water, and what is the temperature and pressure? Question 6: Would a sealless magnetic drive pump be an acceptable alternative to the water cooled unit? Answer 5 & 6: A sealless magnetic drive pump is acceptable. The cooling water is to cool and maintain the temperature of the oil to the nip in a closed loop system. Question 7: What is the approximate pressure drop of the flow through the nip rollers? Answer: Unknown. The inlet feed for the nips is 1/4" OD inserted in the outlet chamber which is 3/4". Question 8: What is the distance from the Fluid Heat Transfer System to the nip rollers? Answer: The maximum distance will be 30 feet. Question 9: Does the installation piping need to be ASME certified, or simply shown to be acceptable practice and leakproof at start-up? Answer: It should be ASME certified. Due to the high temperature and thermal cycling. Question 10: The closing date of May 28th is Memorial Day, is the closing date May 29th. Answer: The Response date is extended to June 1, 2001. The due date for receipt of offers is extended to June 1, 2001. Companies shall provide the information stated in the synopsis/RFQ posted on the NASA Acquisition Internet Service (NAIS) on 05/11/01.
