- Description
- 73 -- The USDA, Agricultural Research Service in Albany, California has a requirement for a TWIN-SCREW COOKER EXTRUDER with minimum screw diameter of 20mm and maximum of 30mm; screw speed of 0 to 1200 RPM and able to provide constant torque over the range of 1200 RPM down to 120 RPM; have a drive AC motor of 20 -- 30 HP, constant torque/speed range 100:1; gearbox shall be equipped with anti-friction type thrust bearings, splash lubricated, and water-cooled; motor shall be directly coupled to the gearbox with a nominal screw speed range of 120 -- 1200 RPM, screw shafts shall be splined and made from high-strength alloy steel; barrel sections shall be 100mm -- 200mm long and electrically heated; each barrel section shall be equipped with thermocouples to determine both barrel and product temperature; barrels shall be internally cored for water-cooling, designed for adding sensors on each barrel and in the die assembly to measure pressure or melt. The extruder shall have a minimum of 6 barrel sections and a minimum of a L:D ratio of 24:1 with options for up to 10 barrel sectionswith a L:D of at least 40:1, be pre-wired for future barrel extension; the feeder barrel section shall be able to be water-cooled. The extruder shall contain removable barrel sections and they shall be able to be arranged in the sequence desired, contain a minimum of 3 barrel sections with ports for feed additions and/or venting of gases; discharge pressure shall be monitored and protected from pressure overload, covers or contoured plugs must be included. The extruder shall contain a minimum of 5 independent temperature controllable, heating and cooling zones; the heated zones shall be able to reach at least 300 degrees C. The extruder shall have an alarm system alert and both mechanical and electrical torque overload protector, the torque limiter shall be capable to disengage when screw shaft torque exceeds 110% of rated value; contain a die plate holder with die pressure and die temperature outputs; have co-rotating, intermeshing, screw elements with fully self-wiping profiles, right and left-handed screw elements and 2 and 3 lobe kneading blocks shall be available; accept feed stock in the form of powder, pellet, chip, melt, paste and solutions; be able to produce representative products with output of 1 kilo per hour, up to about 100 kilos per hour; be constructed for use with food products and suitable for food research; have a control cabinet with available controls and appropriate indicators for power on-off, screw RPM, torque, die pressure, die temperature, barrel and product temperatures; information collected shall be transferred to an automatic data collection system furnished by the vendor; products developed in the extruder shall be scalable to large production model extruders; be designed for installing other external extrusion devices such as on-line rheometer, slot dies, dies for the production of tubes or blow films, or die face pelletizing devices; designed for fast barrel assembly and reconfiguration; capable of operating at continuous die pressures of at least 2000 PSI.
