DESCRIPTION: The National Institute of Standards and Technology = (NIST) plans to contract on a sole source basis with the American = Dental Association Health Foundation (ADAHF), Gaithersburg, Maryland to = perform research to prepare, characterize and evaluate critical = properties of dental materials, especially in the form of composites. = Specific objectives include correlation of the chemical, physical and = mechanical properties of these dental materials. The period of = performance will be for a base year plus 2 one-year option periods from = date of contract award. No solicitation package will be issued for this = requirement. The work to be carried out is highly interdisciplinary = and requires the expertise to prepare, characterize and evaluate = critical properties of the dental materials (dental resins/polymers, = fillers systems, and interfacial phases) especially in the form of = composites. It also requires expertise to establish correlation of the = chemical, physical and mechanical properties of these dental materials. = Through 73 years of research efforts conducted at the NIST site, = ADAHF has established itself as the unique research organization for = conducting research on dental materials. Therefore, only ADAHF will = satisfy the requirements for conducting this highly interdisciplinary = work. See Notes 22 & 26.=20
