- PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT & REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS, FOURTH ROUND OF COOPERATIVE ECOSYSTEM STUDIES UNITS The Federal government is establishing a network of Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Units (CESUs). Each CESU is a working collaboration among Federal agencies and universities. The CESU Network provides research, technical assistance and education to Federal land management, environmental and research agencies. Ten CESUs have been established to date. A CESU National Network Meeting is being held 19-20 June 2001 in Washington, DC. Proposals are sought from universities to participate in the establishment of up to two additional CESUs in FY02. These CESUs will serve two selected biogeographic areas of the country: 1) Great Lakes Northern Forest and 2) Gulf Coast. All universities granting doctoral degrees and located in the identified areas are eligible to submit proposals. Proposals are due 15 October 2001. A Request For Proposals (RFP) is available to eligible universities. The RFP includes a detailed description of the CESU concept and instructions for preparation of proposals. For information on CESUs, and to view and/or download the RFP, visit http://www.cesu.org/cesu. Printed copies of the RFP can be requested by emailing Gary Machlis, CESU Council Coordinator, at gmachlis@uidaho.edu.
