- This is a Sources Sought Synopsis. The U.S. Coast Guard is = conducting market research to determine the existence and interest of = possible sources to provide one self righting boat to be used in = coastal surf up to 10 feet in height and open ocean seas up to 20 ft in = height combined with winds up to 50 knots. The preliminary = requirements for this boat indicate that it needs to have the following = attributes: (a) overall length between 28 and 36 feet, (b) = environmentally controlled, watertight cabin with seating or bolsters = for four crew; (c) inherently self righting (without assistance of = inflatable bags) with positive righting arms at all angles of heel; (d) = draft of no more than 3 feet; (e) maximum speed of at least 30 knots; = (f) twin marine diesel engines with water jet propulsion (g) prominent = fendering of the Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) type or a hybrid = inflatable and foam type for the protection of the boat and vessels = being boarded; (h) able to tow a vessel of up to 40 tons displacement; = (i) excellent seakeeping and handling characteristics; and (j) proven = performance in a similar environment. Information Sought: Interested = companies are encouraged to respond to this announcement, and provide a = summary of their capabilities and their expected ability to meet the = requirements above. Responses should include: (a) The name and address = of the contractor and where the boat would be built; (b) Point of = contact including name, title, phone and email addresses; (c) The size = of the contractor, average annual revenue for the past three years and = the number of employees; (d) A description of boats currently offered = by the contractor that currently meet, or with minor modifications = might meet, the above listed requirements; and (e) Whether the business = is currently classified as a Large, Small, Small Disadvantaged, 8(a) = and/or Woman Owned company, Hub Zone small business, veteran owned = small business, or service disabled veteran owned small business.
