Description
NASA/KSC plans to issue a Request for Quotation (RFQ) for a MSC LINUX SUPER COMPUTING SYSTEM. KSCNASA intends to purchase this system from MSC Software Corporation. MSC Software Corporation is the only vendor that can meet minimum performance requirements. The system consists of 1 EA HP LP 200r Dual Pentium III 866MHz 2/2GB SDRAM, 5 EA 18 GB 10k SCSI Disk Drive, 1 EA APC UPS, 1 EA Rack Mount Flat Screen Monitor/Keyboardand, 6 EA HP XU700 1.5 GHz P4/128GB RDRAM, 6 EA 20GB IDE Disk Drive, and 18 EA 18 GB 10k SCSI Disk Drive. Performance figures listed below resulted when running two benchmarks using a 40,000 degree of freedom model: 1. An eigenvalue solver up to 400 Hz (945 modes) took under 500 seconds to execute. 2. An eigenvalue solver up to 120 Hz (163 modes) with transient analysis and data recovery took under 300 seconds to execute. The sytem is uniquely clustered to run MSC Nastran software and the ability to support distributed parallel processing (DMP). This procurement is being conducted under the Simplified Acquisition Procedures (SAP). The Government intends to acquire a commercial item using FAR Part 12.
