Description
ISSUE DATE: 07/02/01. Contractor shall provide all labor, = materials, equipment, transportation, supervision and disposal = necessary to Repair/Refurbish Lighthouse Door at Orient Point Light, = Orient Point, NY (Suffolk County). The door to be repaired was built = around 1899 and is a two-piece cast iron frame that is bolted together. = The upper half of the frame houses a clear plastic window that is held = in with metal strips that are bolted to the cast iron frame. The lower = half of the door has sheet metal plates on both sides of the door, = which is attached with screws and bolts. The main problem with the = door is that the cast iron frame of the upper half is broken into two = pieces, which will require repairing or remanufacturing. The following = is a list of items that need to be accomplished in the refurbishment = plan: (1) Repair/Remanufacture the door upper frame section; (2) Strip = and remove all paint and corrosion on all parts of the door; (3) = Provide and install new ?? Lexan window. Ensure window is set in = gasket or caulking to prevent water infiltration; (4) Repair or remove = and apply new corrosion protection coating; (5) Provide transportation = to lighthouse to retrieve hinges, refurbish/replace as needed hinge = components (hinge pins, bushings, and grease fittings); (6) Refurbish = dogging mechanisms. Repair and fabricate missing parts to make both = dogging mechanisms operable; (7) Apply primer and two coats of topcoat = paint to all surfaces, exterior surface shall be flat black, interior = shall be semi-gloss white; (8) Provide transportation and equipment = needed to hoist refurbished door back on the lighthouse and reinstall. = Remove and dispose of material (plywood, Plexiglas and plastic) that is = being used to temporally secure opening of the lighthouse. Make all = final adjustments to ensure door closes and dogging mechanisms engage = to keep door secured; and (9) Incidental related work. Due to the = historical nature of this door, specialized experience in metalwork = restoration is required. Award of a contract will be based on best = value. Evaluation will be on (1) Price; (2) Technical approach = including technical expertise, past performance/quality. Estimateed = cost of this project is between $25,000 and $100,000.
