- Description
- Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are working on the following technologies: A computer-controlled device for automatically recording spectra of multiple sample by infrared spectroscopy (IR) or Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) in the attenuated total reflection mode or other reflection modes has been developed. The ATR-autos ampler consists of a positioning table capable of moving the sample in all directions, a platform to hold multiple samples in place, a pressure applying mechanism to provide a good ATR probe-sample contact, and software to control the movements of the positioning table at precise steps in all directions. The device is operated by programming the positioning table so that is moves the samples into contact the ATR probe. After applying a proper pressure to achieve a good contact between the ATR probe and the sample, the computer program commands the spectrometer to record the spectra. This operation in automatically repeated for each sample until all samples are measured.
