Description
Researchers at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) are working on the following technologies: Novel copolymers resulting from the addition of highly branched vinyl ester monomers (neo-vinyl esters) to dimethacrylates, multifunctional methacrylates or oligomeric methacrylates have significantly improved properties compared with conventional methacrylate based polymers and copolymers. The vinyl ester modified polymers groups, strength and toughness as well as improved resistance to aqueous environments. These are all properties that should improved cross-linked network formation, these novel polymers exhibit minimal leachability of residual monomers and/or oligomers, which is an important consideration in the fabrication of polymeric dental composites, sealants and other biomaterials.
