- Description
- The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is seeking professional services for fabrication inspection of bridges and appurtenant structures, along with corresponding field duties and technical consulting services related to the work. These services will require traveling to in-state and out-of-state fabrication shops to conduct on-site inspections during the progress of work. Field inspection services will normally be within the state. Computer generated reports with electronic submittal is preferred. The inspection contract will be divided into three areas: steel bridge fabrication, prestressed concrete bridge fabrication, and miscellaneous structures. Miscellaneous structures include steel and aluminum truss sign support structures, steel cantilever sign support structures, tower lighting units, temporary supports, and ancillary bridge = products. The contract will begin on January 1, 2002 and will expire on December 31, 2004. The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks: Steel Bridge Fabrication: On-site inspection during the progress of the work. The inspection shall be in accordance with Construction & Technology's Materials Quality Assurance Procedures Manual (Procedures Manual), Section D-10. This manual requires on-site inspection to be done by a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) (QC-1 approved under the American Welding Society). Prestressed Concrete Bridge Fabrication: On-site inspection during the progress of the work. The inspection shall be in accordance with the Procedures Manual, Section D-8. This requires the on-site inspection to be done by a Level I Prestressed Concrete Inspector certified by the Prestressed Concrete Institute. Miscellaneous Structures: On-site fabrication inspection of sign support structures, tower lighting units, temporary supports, and = ancillary bridge products, along with field inspection of in-service bridge components, sign support structures and tower lighting units. The fabrication inspection of in-service bridge components shall be in accordance with the Procedures Manual, Section D-11. Inspection of ancillary bridge products and tower lighting units shall be in accordance with Section D-10. Field inspection services shall be in accordance with MDOT's written procedures and Standard Specifications. This requires the on-site fabrication inspection to be done by a CWI (QC-1) approved under the American Welding Society. The field inspection is to be done by personnel qualified as a CWI and Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Level II qualified under the American Society for Nondestructive Testing. Professional firms possessing the inspection expertise cited above are invited to submit a letter of interest. Submit in accordance with the guidelines and scope provided on the Internet (mdotbbs.mdot.state.mi.us), file library CESCOPE, along with verification that inspection personnel meet the requirement specified above. The top five highest scores from the long list will be selected to submit prices and will be considered for final selection. In case of a tie for the top score, more than five selections will be made. More than one firm may be selected to provide the service. Your letter of interest and accompanying documents must be submitted in triplicate and postmarked no later than July 26, 2001. The submittal should be labeled "Fabrication Inspection." =20
