Description

The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) is requesting information on Scaleable Optical Cross Connect (N x N) Switches. NSWCDD prefers an all-photonic switch, but will consider switches utilizing optical-electrical-optical (OEO) conversions. NSWCDD prefers a switch with low optical signal loss (e.g., 3.0 dB or less). The switch shall be capable of being controlled via software, using an industry-standard communications interface (e.g., RS-232 or Ethernet SNMP). NSWCDD prefers a non-blocking, scaleable matrix switch. NSWCDD prefers switches that can accommodate either single-mode or multi-mode fiber, or both. NSWCDD requires concise responses that specify switch architecture, specific losses, end-to-end latency, physical size, human-machine interface, software interface, power requirements, etc. NSWCDD will invite selected vendors to demonstrate specific product(s) at the Aegis Computer Center in Dahlgren, VA, beginning 9 July 2001. NO SOLICITATION EXISTS AT THIS TIME. This request is for information only. This inquiry is intended to identify likely commercial products that will meet the requirements for Scaleable Optical Cross Connect (N x N) Switches and obtain a summary of each product's capabilities. Companies with products meeting or exceeding the stated requirements are invited to submit appropriate documentation, literature, brochures, and references. Companies shall submit information by 29 June 2001 to Contracting Officer, Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division, Code Sd12, Building 183, 17320 Dahlgren Rd, Dahlgren, VA 22448-5100.
