- Description
- The Coastal Systems Station, Dahlgren Division, NSWC, Panama City, Florida intends o procure on a sole-source basis a Remote Environmental Monitoring Units (REMUS) Autonomous Underwater Vehicles from Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute (WHOI), Woods Hole, MA 02543. The REMUS is a commercially available semi-autonomous hydrographic reconnaissance vehicle system for use in the littoral mission region. Vehicle will provide bathymetric data (water depth, temperature, salinity, clarity and current) as well as side scan sonar images, and operate in water depths from 10 to 66 feet, in currents up to 2 knots, up to Sea State 2 conditions. Data is geo-spatially located and downloadable into MEDALS format. Vehicle is capable of dead reckoning, long baseline and ultra-short baseline navigation. The system is small and lightweight, capable of being deployed by 1 or 2 men from a small craft (such as CRRC-L) without hoists, or other weight handling equipment. The vehicle and all its ancillary equipment will be packaged suitably for commercial or military shipment. The REMUS system was developed by and is commercially available from WHOI. Several government and private research activities currently use it. A market survey, including a review of the non-profit Autonomous Undersea Systems Institute report of over 20 available AUV systems, did not identify any other systems that meet all of these criteria. Other systems were excessive in size and weight, not technologically mature or not commercially available. REMUS is the only vehicle capable of meeting the mission requirements. This procurement will include two complete systems, consisting of the vehicle, all navigational and tracking components, programming and data download equipment and software, storage/shipping containers for all components, and a spare parts/tool kit. Delivery will be to the Coastal Systems Station, 6703 West Highway 98, Panama City, Florida, 32407-7001. Required delivery date is 6 months after award of the contract. NAICS: 334511. Note 22 apply. Address requests to the Contract Specialist shown below. No telephone requests will be accepted. Anticipated contract type is a commercial item firm-fixed-price type.
