Description

The US Army Research Laboratory, Weapons and materials Division, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD 21005, intends to award on a sole-source basis to B.F. Goodrich for the purchase of a patented Flexometer Model II new compact console design with vibraton of base; meets all ASTM D623 requirements. This instrument offers unique capabilities that allows for the unmanned use of the instrument once the sample is loaded. Does not require constant observation to stop the machine to prevent damage once the samples failed. Unit will allow storage of data for purposes of reviewing them at a later time, provides on-line help for new users to provide accurate results. The flexometer test, ASTM D-623, is a widely used industry standard for the determination of the heat buildup and blowout characteristics of rubber compounds. The Army Research Laboratory has found no other source that has an instrument available to perform the mechanical characterization of elastomers under rapid deformation.
