Description

Demolition and removal of existing vault toilets and miscellaneous site improvements including gates, wood curbs and bollards, campfire rings, campsite markers, bulletin boards, signs and water spigots. Abandonment and removal of existing electrical and water distribution systems, and salvage of existing picnic tables for use in the new construction. Site preparation for new construction including roadway obliteration, clearing and grubbing, selective clearing and limbing/bucking of removed trees. Earthwork consisting of excavations, embankments and fills, trenching and backfill, rock walls and subgrade establishment. Construction of new crushed surface roadways and camp spurs, resurfacing of existing roadways and lengthening of existing camp spurs including construction of new pipe culverts and replacement of selected existing pipe culverts. Construction of crushed surface camp pads and trails, including reconstruction of existing camp pads. Work includes limited areas of flagstone paving and stone tactile strips. Miscellaneous site furnishings, including but not necessarily limited to, picnic tables, campfire rings, campsite markers, timber curbs, signs and boulders. Construction of new potable water system, including connection to existing artesian well and plumbing design and modifications within existing pump house. Work includes pressure tanks, water hydrants and stone hydrant. Soil preparation, finish grading, planting and seeding including collection and storage of live plant materials. Miscellaneous metal fabrications, including fabrication and installation of steel gates. Construction of bulletin boards, wood storage sheds, picnic/cook shelters and insulated well enclosure. Work includes rough and finish carpentry, metal and cedar shake roof/flashing systems, steel doors and miscellaneous hardware. Design and construction of pre-engineered host cabin based on performance criteria noted on the plans and stated in the specifications. Construction of pre-engineered vault toilets and sewage tanks. Work includes sanitary sewer pipe, holding tanks, and RV sewer sump at campground host sites. Construction of new underground primary and secondary electrical distribution systems, including coordination with City and Borough of Sitka Electrical Department. Work includes service connections at host sites. Starrigavan Campground is located approximately 7 miles from downtown Sitka, Alaska and approximately 2 miles from the Sitka Ferry Terminal. The project site is accessible by paved road. Sitka, Alaska is served by airlines, barge lines,and the Alaska Marine Highway System. Contract time is 455 calendar days. Estimated start work date is September 15, 2001. Estimated price range is between $1,000,000 and $5,000,000. The solicitation except for the contract drawings and specifications will be posted to our web site (URL address shown below) for downloading by C.O.B. July 12, 2001. The contract specifications and drawings will need to be purchased from a third party at an estimated cost of $63 plus shipping for drawings and $8 plus shipping for specifications. All the information you will need to obtain the contract drawings from the third party will be posted to our web site when we issue the solicitation. It will be the responsibility of the bidder to check the web site for any amendments to the solicitation.
