Description

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (U.S. EPA) intends to award a sole source fixed price purchase order modification to Rad/Comm Systems Corp. of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada for one grapple mounted radiation detection system to be mounted on an existing Hawco 17 yard 8 tine grapple Serial Number 8T429 located at the Cooper/T.Smith Stevedoring Company in Darrow, LA 70725. This purchase is a follow-on to CBD announcement no. 50K538 and resulting contract 1W-2607-LTNX, in support of the EPA/U.S. Customs Service interagency agreement/pilot project. The 17 yard grapple referenced is used to off-load scrap stainless steel, which is often contaminated with radioactive materials. It is in the Federal Government's interest to have all radiation detectors at use the same automated data logging system provided by Rad/Comm. See Notes 12 and 22.
