Description

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) plans to negotiate with Dr. Jean-Louis Briaud of Texas A&M University to conduct a research study entitled ?GeoGauge and Compaction Control.? The GeoGauge is a portable instrument that is used to obtain the modulus of a soil in the field. The purpose of this research is to develop a GeoGauge laboratory procedure and data reduction to be used for compaction control for a variety of soils. Dr. Briaud is uniquely familiar with the theoretical connection between modulus in embankment and pavement design, compaction control, and the future need for modulus control in the field. Dr. Briaud is a member of the Technical Working Group for the Pooled for study and is familiar with the work already completed to this date. Because Dr. Briaud is uniquely qualified to conduct the research, no other source is considered reasonably available. This is a Simplified Acquisition and the anticipated award date is July 13, 2001.
