In the June 1, 2001, edition of the Commerce Business Daily, the PSWN Program issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking feedback from the wireless communications industry and its affiliates regarding building, maintaining, and/or managing land mobile radio (LMR) networks offered to public safety users under leased service agreements. The request generated a great deal of interest among potential industry respondents; however, the initial feedback is that the depth or the information being sought will require a lengthier response period in which to prepare comprehensive responses. In light of this initial feedback, the PSWN Program will be extending the response deadline from the previously published date of June 25, 2001, to the new date of July 31, 2001. The PSWN Program is a joint initiative between the Department of Justice and the Department of the Treasury focusing on improving wireless communications interoperability among public safety organizations.
