Description

The project is the fourth phase of a major interior and exterior remodel and renovation of the Old Cordova Post Office in Cordova, Alaska. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places which requires compliance with Secretary of the Interior's Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (36 CFR Part 68) and Alaska State Historical Preservation Office (SHPO) guidance. The project includes: limited interior renovation and remodel work on the first and third floors including removal of asbestos-containing floor tiles; exterior concrete repair work, paint removal, surface preparation, and re-painting; replacement of 53 windows including some seismic retrofit; replacement of existing building marquee which has asbestos containing materials. Exterior and some interior paint contains lead which will require that appropriate and applicable measures be incorporated for abatement and personnel protection. The building serves as the headquarters and administrative office for the Cordova Ranger District and must remain occupied and functional during the work. Cordova, Alaska is a small community accessible only by air or water-borne craft. The estimated price range for the project is between $500,000 and $1,000,000. The contract time will be 300 calendar days. The estimated start work date is September 25, 2001.
