- Description
- TACOM-Rock Island is seeking sources to supplement its in-house capability for repair of unserviceable sight mounts for the M64A1 Sight Unit. National Stock Number (NSN) is: 1240-01-050-5588. The contractor would be provided quantities of unserviceable sight mounts for repair. Estimated quantity is approximately 250 each. After repair, sight mounts shall meet all inspection and operational requirements as stated in the technical data package (TDP). The sight mount is part of the M64A1 Sight Unit, which is a portable, lightweight precision fire control instrument used by mortar units of U.S. armed forces. It is the device by which the mortar gunner sets deflection and elevation of the gun to hit and destoy targets. The two major components of the sight unit are the elbow telescope and sight mount. Sources are sought for repair of the sight mount only. The sight mount has a dovetail, locking knobs, control knobs, scales, cranks, and locking latch. Potential sources should consider the following: 1. Ten (10) parts of the sight mount (level vials, indexes, and scales) are illuminated by radioactive tritium gas. Contractors must comply with applicable public law concerning tritium gas and must have or be able to obtain applicable licenses from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). A company that would receive and repair the sight mount would need an NRC license or an NRC Agreement State License to possess and perform repairs on devices containing gaseous tritium in sealed sources. You must be authorized under the NRC license to remove and replace the tritium sources or source assemblies as part of the repair. The sight mount contains 5.1 curies per device in ten (10) different sealed sources. 2. The sight mount requires precision alignment and adjustment. The Government would not provide any tools, test stands, fixtures, or other equipment. 3. Contractors would be required to establish their own sources of supplies for required repair and replacement parts. No parts would be furnished by the Government, nor would the contractor be authorized to buy parts from Government owned stocks. 4. Interested contractors should submit a letter stating their interest and should also submit a copy of their NRC license to TACOM-Rock Island, AMSTA-LC-CFA-B, ATTN: Dan McGuire, Rock Island, IL 61299-7630 by close of business 15 August 2001.
