Description

The government is looking for sources to make the following item: Tempered Glass or Glass-Ceramic Tube (either thermally or chemically tempered), O.D. of 3.19" (81mm), length approximately 9.25", and desired wall thickness of 0.200". The wall thickness may be changed depending on the required thickness needed to obtain the strengths the Government is looking for. The tube should have a yield strength of at least 25,000 psi. We desire to have the tempered strength as high as possible. The tube must be tempered to a point that it will dice(desired dice size of less than 0.25") when the compressive layer (from tempering) is pierced. The quantities desired are less than 10 piece parts, to be used to evaluate the mechanical strength of the tube in a dynamic ballistic environment (mortar launched) as well as other characteristics. Summary of desired traits: Dimensions 3.19" (dia) x 9.25" (length), wall thickness 0.200" (changeable depending on required thickness for manufacturing purposes) Yield Str: min 25,000 psi (based on a force of 2,000gs loaded on an area of the above dimensions) Tempering of a sufficient level to dice (0.25" max dice size desired) (desired to be the maximum producible in the type of material used) If the desired tube O.D. is not standard stock or easily obtainable, an O.D. of smaller size may be acceptable.
