Description

The US ARMY CECOM at Ft. Monmouth, NJ intends to solicit, negotiate and award a contract to Stevens Institute of Technology under the authority of FAR 6.302. The US Army is looking to optical wireless communications, because of the inherent advantages of high data rate, crosstalk independence, and resistance to jamming; covertness and quick system setup for applications in communications on-the move (COTM). The scope of the effort herein described is to provide technical support to the Photonics/Microwave Laboratory for a period of 48 months. The US Army is looking at applications of high speed, secure, tactical free space optical communication links for digital battlefield communications. The contractor will provide technical support in the area of laser communications systems, photonic components and devices, and fiber optic communications sytems research and laboratory support to the Space and Terrestrial Communications Directorate, Space Systems Division, Space Technology Branch of CECOM Research and Development Electronics Command. Other areas of support will be theoretical and experiment, research and development, measurements and characterization of components, subsystems, and systems of both free space communications, fiber optic, other advanced communications with special emphasis on wide bandwidth analog and digital photonic and/or microwave components and systems.
