Description
Notice of intent to negotiate a sole soruce contract with the Skagit River Cooperative (SRC) for the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). Purpose of proposed contract is to establish an exploitation rate indicator stock to represent the Skagit River fall chinook salmon run. The Skagit River chinook salmon stocks are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act. The SRC will take brood stock from the fall chinook stock in the fall of 2001, arrange for their incubation and rearing in a hatchery and tag the resulting fish smolts before their release in the spring of 2002. When these tagged fish return to the Skagit River, they will constitute an exploitation rate indicator group for the entire fall chinook stock. The SRC is a consortium of three Northwest Native American tribes involved in the salmon stocks and fisheries of the Skagit River. The SRC conducts research, promotes habitat protection and restoration, and is involved in salmon enhancement in the Skagit River drainage. Exploitation rate indicator required for the Skagit River, and SRC only source with a hatchery on this river. Questions concerning this acquisition may be directed to Randall Brown at 206-526-6226 or fax 206-526-6025. This is a simplified acquisition with an estimated value of less than $100,000.
